A BIBLE STUDY

"DELIVERANCE FROM FEAR"

I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. [ PSALMS 34:4 ]

There are many things in such a world as ours, which can bring fear into human hearts:

     Fear of Want,

     Fear of War,

     Fear of Rejection,

     Fear of the Dark,

     And a multitude of others.

Some fears are rational, some are foolish, but all are very serious to those who experience them!

The good news of the gospel, however, can set us free from every fear. Remember that fear entered the world when sin entered the world.

And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. [ GEN 3:10 ]

"I was afraid", Adam explained, when God found him hiding in the garden after eating the forbidden fruit. The second reference to fear in the Bible, on the other hand, was to childless Abram.

After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. [ GEN 15:1 ]

At least 19 times in the New Testament we hear the words "fear not", or "be not afraid", on the lips of Christ. Whenever phobias beset us or fears discourage us, deliverance is ours when we seek the Lord. Then we read the words of the book of Hebrews:

So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. [ HEB 13:6 ]

Even if we must sometimes suffer righteously, the apostle Peter cheers us:

But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; [ 1PET 3:14 ]

Perhaps the greatest fear of all is the fear of death, but the Lord delivers us even from this fear, for He has conquered death. In His glorified body, He has said:

17 ...Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. [ REV 1:17 ]

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. [ 1COR 15:50 ]
